Computer technologies such as mobile data acquisition and processing, which are standards in the non hazardous area, are increasingly used also in the hazardous area. The new Mobile Computer MC 9090ex RFID is a compact unit for the safe scanning of barcodes and RFID transponders in the Ex area. Equipped with an LF, an HF or a UHF reader, it can for the first time be used for all three frequencies. It combines the advantages of the operating system Windows Mobile 2005 and the strengths of the Intel® XScaleTM PXA270 processor with 625 MHz.

RFID stands for radio frequency identification. In contrast to the barcode acquisition, this technology allows to transfer data via radio waves without physical and visual contact. RFID gains more and more importance in the hazardous area. For plant operators especially in the chemical, oil and gas industries as well as in the petrochemical, pharmaceutical, energy and environment sectors, the Mobile Computer is used, among other purposes, for maintenance and repair works, asset management, task assignment or warehouse management.

The robust design of the MC 9090ex RFID even withstands the tough use under extreme ambient conditions. Due to its comfortably placed scan trigger and its ergonomic design, it can be operated with one hand. The various keypad variants and the easily legible ¼ VGA colour display with touch-screen technology provide the user with optimal input comfort. As a result of the optimized energy management and the highly efficient replaceable lithium ion battery, the Mobile Computer is always ready for use.

The MC 9090ex RFID is certified in accordance with ATEX for the use in zone1 as well as in zones 2 and 22 or in accordance with UL class I, II, III division 1, as well as with UL class I, II, III division 2. Due to the available LF frequency ranges of 125KHz and 134KHz, the HF frequency range of 13.5MHz and the UHF frequency ranges of 869.5 MHz for Europe and 902-928 MHz for North America, various standards are supported. The data transfer takes place via WLAN radio standard IEEE 802.11 a/b/g. Alternatively, data can be stored intermediately in the device and transferred to external computers / servers via a docking station at the end of a working shift.

Advantages for the user

  • RFID read/write and barcode reader 1D, 2D with imaging in one device, simple switching between RFID acquisition and barcode acquisition is possible
  • Applicable for all three frequencies (LF, HF, UHF)
  • Reduction of process costs by means of effective and controlled processes
  • Reduction of working times through real-time data acquisition
  • Optimization of working processes
  • Improvement of product/process assurance, quality control and traceability
